When Todd-Avery Lenahan, president and Chief Creative Officer of Wynn Design & Development, was tasked with relocating B Bar at Wynn Las Vegas to a new home across the hallway, he recognized a far greater opportunity.
“I started drawing, and I was able to show the team what we could do to the space architecturally…to create an even greater portfolio of wonderful little experiences,” he says.
The inspiration for the design? His favorite drink, the old fashioned.
“This is the physical manifestation of a fantastic old fashioned. The light fixtures were inspired by the beautiful piece of ice in an old fashioned. The color of the wood grew from great bourbons and whiskeys. Part of what I sought to do here was to create a hug, an architectural enclosure that still benefits from the buzz that's just outside, but contains the mood, the energy of the people, and the staff that are within it.”
He executes with “supreme surgical precision. It's about having quality artistry, the right shot of glam, and an incredible setting as a stage for fun.”
The materials spotlight English sartorial fashion: wool houndstooth on the walls with an olive green background, the navy blue weave, cobalt blue alpaca, and the little brass details of cuff links.
And the lighting? Theatrical.
“There's a lot happening with lighting in here. Even the beautiful, rich ebony and chocolate quality that you see on this carpet is not happening from any lighting in the ceiling. It's happening from the concealed lights that are beneath the tables. The other reason I underlit the tables is because I wanted people to put their feet up on those beautiful brushed and polished brass foot rails, to have their shoes show off.”
Beyond pleasing discerning guests, Lenahan also wants to impress Wynn team members.
“I know when the staff and the team love it, they are going to love this space with incredible care, and they're going to elevate it beyond what it is physically, because they're going to layer onto it their amazing service delivery, that incredible hospitality that makes the place go from a song to an opera,” he says.
